Astro vs Webflow for a content heavy SaaS site

Astro vs Webflow for a growing content library: weigh plan limits against ownership. Webflow gives a hosted visual CMS, with 40 collections and 20,000 items on Premium. Astro keeps the site as code in a repo you own, with content in files or a headless CMS. Gr8r Studio compares both from official docs.

Our view

Pick by the size of your library and who edits it. If your content fits Webflow's limits and marketing runs the site, Astro adds setup you do not need. If you need a content strategy or writers more than a build, a content team will serve you better. Clients own everything once it's paid for.

What we have built

  • Orthotropic (orthotropicbd.com): We designed and built the Orthotropic website in Webflow.

Moving between them

Webflow's own pricing page is unclear on CMS export, so confirm it before you rely on it 2] (checked 26 Oct 2026). A move to Astro means moving each CMS collection and rebuilding templates. Map and redirect every changed URL. See [website migrations.

Questions

Is Astro or Webflow better for a content heavy site?

Webflow suits a content site that fits its CMS limits, 40 collections and 20,000 items on Premium, and editors who want one hosted tool. Astro suits a library that may outgrow those limits or that developers want in a repo, with content in files or a headless CMS.

How does the Astro CMS setup differ from the Webflow CMS?

Webflow's CMS is built in: editors add items to collections, within the limits of the site plan. Astro reads content from files or a headless CMS you choose, such as WordPress. That gives more freedom, along with more setup and upkeep for your developers.

Which is easier to edit, Astro or Webflow?

Webflow, for most marketing teams. Editors and designers change pages and CMS items visually, then publish. Astro is easy to edit only once a headless CMS is connected; without one, every change goes through a developer. Pick by who edits each week and how technical they are.

Can I move from Webflow to Astro?

Yes, as a rebuild. Webflow's code export comes on paid Workspace plans, but Webflow's own pricing page is unclear on CMS export, so confirm it before you rely on it; forms stop working and the code cannot be reimported. Map every URL, move content into files or a CMS, and add a 301 redirect for each URL that changes.

Is Astro or Webflow better for SEO?

Both can rank well. Webflow gives hosting, free SSL, standards based code and localized SEO through Localize. Astro renders on the server first and gives developers full control of markup and schema. Content quality, site structure and clean redirects matter more than the tool.

Which handles ecommerce?

Webflow sells ecommerce as separate plans, from 500 to 15,000 items, per its pricing page. With Astro, a store means connecting a separate commerce service and building the pages in code. For a small catalogue run by marketers, Webflow is simpler to keep running.
