What each costs to run
We do not list figures here; plans change, so check each official page.
- Astro: you choose and pay for the host [5] and any headless CMS [3].
- Next.js: you choose and pay for the host [6] and any headless CMS [4].
Our view
Pick by what the site does. If your team already runs a React app and only needs a few marketing pages added to it, your own engineers may be the faster choice. If nobody will own the code after launch, a hosted builder like Framer or Webflow suits you better than us building in code. Clients own everything once it's paid for.
What we have built
- Astro: We also build custom coded sites, for example in Astro.
- Glaze (getgradients.com): A gradient engine that runs in the browser. Built by Gr8r for its own portfolio. Not client work.

Moving between them
Both are code, so a move between them is a rebuild of templates in the same repo. Map and redirect any URL that changes. See website migrations.

Questions
Is Astro faster than Next.js?
For content pages, Astro is built to be lean: it renders on the server first and adds interactivity only where you place islands. Next.js is built for full stack web applications. Speed in practice depends on how each site is built, hosted and loaded with scripts, so test your own pages.
Is Astro or Next.js better for a marketing site?
Start from what the site does. If it is pages, posts and docs that change often, Astro fits, since it is built for content driven sites. If the marketing site shares logins, data or components with your product, Next.js keeps the site and product in the same React framework.
When is Next.js the better choice?
When the site behaves like an app: logins, dashboards, user data or logic shared with your product. Next.js is a React framework for full stack web applications, so it fits teams with React developers who will own the code, hosting and updates after launch.
Which works with a headless CMS?
Both. Astro takes content from files or a headless CMS, and its docs include a WordPress guide. Next.js takes content from files or a headless CMS of your choice. Pick the CMS by who edits content each day, then pick the framework by what the site needs to do.
Is Astro or Next.js better for SEO?
Both can produce crawlable pages with full control of titles, metas and schema, and both can render on the server. Astro is built for content pages, which suits most marketing sites. Rankings depend more on content, site structure and clean redirects than on the framework you choose.
How do I choose between Astro and Next.js?
Start with what the site has to do after launch. Content pages, posts and docs point to Astro, which is built for content driven sites. Logins, app data or logic shared with a product point to Next.js. Then check who will own the code, the host and the CMS each week.
