Why MCP matters

Every AI tool used to need its own custom connector for every system. MCP gives tools and data sources one shared way to describe what they offer, so a connector built once can work with many AI clients.

How MCP works

An MCP server exposes tools, resources and prompts, for example "search tickets" or "create invoice". An AI client connects, sees what is available and calls those tools when a task needs them.

The server handles authentication and decides what the AI can actually do.

Common MCP mistakes

Exposing powerful write actions without approval steps. Connecting untrusted third-party servers to sensitive systems. Treating tool results as trusted when they could contain injected instructions.

How Gr8r approaches MCP

We build MCP servers with narrow, well-named tools and the least access needed. Read actions come first; write actions get confirmation steps and logging. We review every connected server as part of the security design.

Example

A company builds an MCP server for its CRM with two read tools and one draft-only tool, so an AI assistant can look up accounts and prepare follow-up notes but cannot send anything.

FAQ

Questions

  • Who created MCP?

Anthropic introduced MCP as an open standard in late 2024. It is now supported by a range of AI clients and tools.

  • Is MCP secure?

The protocol is a way to connect systems, not a security guarantee. Safety depends on how servers scope access, authenticate users and handle approvals.
