## Why product discovery matters

Building the wrong thing is the most expensive mistake in product work. Discovery reduces that risk by testing ideas cheaply, with conversations, maps and prototypes, before committing engineering time.

## How product discovery works

Teams interview users, map current workflows, review data and list risky assumptions. They then test the riskiest ones with sketches, clickable prototypes or small experiments.

The output is a clear problem statement, a prioritised scope and agreed success criteria.

## Common product discovery mistakes

Treating discovery as a one-off phase. Asking users what features they want instead of watching how they work. Skipping technical feasibility until after the design is approved.
